Food Cart Cost in India: What Affects the Price
Foodwagon Team · 26 September 2026
Almost every first-time food entrepreneur asks the same question: how much does a food cart cost? The honest answer is that there is no single number, because a cart is a made-to-order piece of commercial equipment. What you can do is understand the factors that move the price, so your budget and your quote line up.
1. Size and layout
A compact push cart and a full-length service counter are very different builds. Length and width decide how much steel, panel and finishing material goes in, and how much equipment can be placed inside. Decide your menu first, then let the menu decide the footprint rather than the other way round.
2. Body material and finish
The frame and body are usually stainless steel or mild steel with a protective coating. Food-contact surfaces such as counters and work tops should be food-grade stainless steel. Exterior finishes such as laminate, ACP cladding or paint add to the cost but also decide how the cart looks and how long it stays looking that way.
3. Equipment and utilities
This is the largest variable. A coffee cart carries an espresso machine, grinder and refrigeration. A grill cart needs burners and ventilation. Ask yourself which equipment is built into the cart and which you already own. Also plan for:
- Electrical provision, wiring and power points
- Water storage, sinks and drainage
- Gas connection and safety fittings
- Refrigeration and storage compartments
4. Mobility
A wheeled push cart, a towable unit and a stationary kiosk each have different structural needs. If the cart must move daily, the chassis, wheels and weight matter.
5. Branding and signage
Colour, livery, lighting and signage are what customers notice first. Custom branding is worth budgeting for separately so it does not get squeezed at the end.
6. Quantity
Ordering several identical units is usually more efficient than one-off builds, which is why brands rolling out multiple outlets often look at white-label manufacturing.
How to budget well
- Write down your menu and the equipment it needs.
- Decide where the cart will operate and whether it must move.
- Set aside a separate budget for licences, initial stock and branding.
- Ask for a written specification with your quote so that two quotes can be compared fairly.
At Foodwagon, pricing is confirmed by our team after a consultation about your size, material and customization needs, so the quote reflects what you actually need. You can browse our food carts and kiosks or request a quote to get started.
